Overview
The Dental Sciences department at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital offers complete care for the teeth, gums and mouth for patients of all ages. Our dental team provides routine check-ups and cleaning, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions, gum treatment, replacement of missing teeth with crowns, bridges and dentures, and orthodontic care to straighten teeth. Children receive gentle care suited to their age, and we place strong emphasis on prevention, helping families protect their teeth and avoid painful problems later.
As part of a Kathmandu University affiliated teaching hospital, our dental team works within a wider network of specialist and diagnostic services. Dental X-rays help plan treatment, while oral and maxillofacial problems such as jaw fractures, facial infections and suspicious mouth ulcers can be managed with support from ENT, imaging, pathology and the Birat Cancer Institute. Patients with diabetes, heart disease or bleeding problems benefit from easy coordination with physicians in the same hospital, so dental treatment can be planned safely around their other health needs.
We want a visit to the dentist to feel comfortable and reassuring. BMCTH accepts Government Health Insurance and the Social Security Fund (SSF); please ask our registration staff which dental services your scheme covers. Our in-house pharmacy provides medicines and advice after treatment. The Dental OPD is open Sunday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. For severe facial swelling, injury to the jaw or bleeding that will not stop, our Emergency department is open 24 hours a day.

All doctorsCommon questions
Most people benefit from a dental check-up about every six months, or as advised by your dentist. Regular visits help catch decay and gum disease early, when treatment is simpler.
