Overview
The Department of Cardiology at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital provides complete heart care for adults and children in eastern Nepal, from prevention and diagnosis to emergency treatment and long-term follow-up. Our cardiologists assess chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure and heart failure, and offer the full range of everyday heart tests on site: ECG, echocardiography, treadmill test (TMT), Holter monitoring and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). Patients who need a closer look at their heart arteries can have angiography in our own cath lab.
When treatment is needed, our interventional team performs angioplasty and stenting, pacemaker implantation and device closure procedures in the cath lab, and seriously ill patients are looked after in our dedicated Coronary Care Unit (CCU). Because BMCTH is a multispecialty teaching hospital affiliated to Kathmandu University, cardiologists work closely with emergency, intensive care, radiology and laboratory teams under one roof, and our consultants also teach the next generation of doctors, keeping practice current and evidence-based.
Heart attacks do not wait for office hours, so if you have chest pain, sudden breathlessness or fainting, do not delay: our Emergency department is open 24 hours a day, every day. We accept Government Health Insurance, the Social Security Fund (SSF) and the Bipanna Nagarik fund, which supports impoverished citizens with serious heart disease. To see a cardiologist, visit OPD Sunday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, or call 021-422601 or 423182.
