Overview
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including public holidays. Our emergency team assesses and treats patients with sudden illness and injury, from chest pain, breathing difficulty and stroke symptoms to road traffic accidents, poisoning, high fever and complications of pregnancy. Patients are quickly assessed on arrival so that the most seriously ill are treated first, and life-saving care can begin without delay.
Emergency care at BMCTH is backed by the full strength of a multispecialty teaching hospital. The team has rapid access to imaging, including the 512-slice CT scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI, digital X-ray, portable bedside X-ray and ultrasound, as well as the hospital laboratory and blood bank. Patients can be moved on to the cardiac cath lab and Coronary Care Unit for heart attacks, operating theatres for emergency surgery, or Intensive Care Units with advanced life support, with specialists from across the hospital called in as needed.
In an emergency, do not wait. Come directly to the BMCTH Emergency in Tankisinwari, Biratnagar, or call 021-422601. BMCTH accepts Government Health Insurance, the Social Security Fund (SSF), the Bipanna Nagarik treatment fund for eligible serious illnesses, and the Safe Motherhood Program, and our priority is always to begin treatment first and complete paperwork afterwards. Family members can bring insurance documents, ID and any previous medical reports once the patient is being cared for by our team.
