Overview
The ENT – Head & Neck Surgery department at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital cares for children and adults with problems of the ear, nose, throat and the wider head and neck region. Our team sees everything from ear infections, hearing loss and blocked sinuses to tonsil problems, voice changes, swallowing difficulty and lumps in the neck. Each patient receives a careful examination, a clear explanation of what is happening and a treatment plan that may include medicines, minor procedures or surgery, always chosen with the patient's comfort and long-term wellbeing in mind.
As a teaching hospital affiliated to Kathmandu University, BMCTH brings ENT specialists together with closely linked hospital services. CT and 1.5 Tesla MRI imaging help in assessing sinus disease, ear conditions and head and neck masses, while our laboratory and pathology services support accurate diagnosis. For patients with head and neck tumours, the team works alongside the Birat Cancer Institute and its multidisciplinary tumour board. Operations are performed with anaesthesia support, and Intensive Care Units are available for patients who need closer monitoring after major surgery.
We want every visit to feel straightforward. BMCTH accepts Government Health Insurance and the Social Security Fund (SSF), and eligible patients with serious illnesses such as cancer may receive support through the Bipanna Nagarik treatment fund. Our in-house pharmacy provides medicines and counselling on how to use them correctly, including ear drops and nasal sprays. The ENT OPD runs from Sunday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and our Emergency department is open 24 hours a day for urgent problems such as heavy nosebleeds, foreign bodies or breathing difficulty.

See an ENT doctor if you have ear pain or discharge, hearing loss, a blocked nose or sinus pain that keeps returning, a sore throat that does not settle, hoarseness lasting more than a few weeks, or a lump in the neck. Early assessment often makes treatment simpler.
