Overview
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital cares for people of all ages with problems of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and spine. Our orthopaedic surgeons treat fractures and injuries from road traffic accidents, falls and sport, as well as long-term conditions such as arthritis, back pain, frozen shoulder and bone infections. We also see children with conditions such as clubfoot and bone deformities. Whenever possible we start with non-surgical treatment, and recommend surgery only when it offers the best chance of recovery.
Accurate diagnosis is the first step, and our patients have on-site access to digital X-ray, a 512-slice CT scanner and a 1.5 Tesla MRI, along with full laboratory services. Injured patients are received through our 24-hour Emergency, and those with serious injuries are supported by intensive care units with advanced life support. As a multispecialty teaching hospital affiliated to Kathmandu University, we work alongside neurosurgery, anaesthesiology and physiotherapy so that each patient's care continues from the operating theatre to rehabilitation.
Our aim is to relieve pain, restore function and help you move freely and return to work, school and daily life as quickly and safely as possible. BMCTH accepts Government Health Insurance and the Social Security Fund (SSF). To see an orthopaedic surgeon, visit OPD Sunday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, or call 021-422601 or 423182. For fractures and other injuries, come to our Emergency at any time of day or night, including public holidays.
