Overview
The Department of Physiotherapy at Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital helps patients relieve pain, restore movement and return to daily life. Our physiotherapists assess how an injury, illness or operation is affecting your body and design a treatment plan built around exercise, manual therapy, electrotherapy and education. We care for people with back and neck pain, joint and sports injuries, stiffness after fractures, recovery after surgery, and conditions such as stroke and other nerve problems that affect strength and balance.
Physiotherapy works closely with orthopaedics, neurology, general surgery, medicine and the Intensive Care Units in this Kathmandu University affiliated teaching hospital. Admitted patients may be seen on the wards to help them breathe better, get out of bed safely and begin walking again, while outpatients attend regular sessions to continue their progress. Where needed, doctors can draw on the hospital's imaging services, including X-ray, ultrasound and MRI, to guide the rehabilitation plan.
Recovery is a partnership, and our team will teach you simple exercises to continue at home between visits. Wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring any reports or X-rays to your appointment. BMCTH accepts Government Health Insurance, the Social Security Fund (SSF) and other national coverage programs. The outpatient department is open Sunday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. To book, call 021-422601 or 423182, or register on the day of your visit.

Common questions
Many patients are referred by an orthopaedic surgeon, neurologist or other doctor, and a referral helps the physiotherapist understand your diagnosis. If you are unsure, register at the OPD and our staff will guide you to the right consultation.
