LABORATORY SERVICES
At Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital, the Department of Laboratory Medicine is designed to provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic services, supported by expert doctors and skilled technicians. The hospital also supports genetic and molecular biology testing, covering important subspecialties such as molecular genetics, cytogenesis, and genetic counseling. Additionally, services such as predictive tests for conditions like cancer and heart disease, as well as a screening program for infertility and prenatal diseases, are available.
The hospital’s blood bank operates an independent service with advanced therapies similar to component therapy. This allows blood collected from donors to be separated into its components, ensuring that only the necessary components are used for specific treatments. These include Plasmapheresis for Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) collection, Plateletpheresis for platelet collection, and Leukapheresis for the removal of white blood cells for transfusion. Stem Cell Harvesting is also offered, where bone marrow cells are collected for use in bone marrow transplantation.
A hospital-wide information system facilitates the ordering and reporting of laboratory tests, streamlining processes for both inpatient and outpatient services.
